Today has been the coalition’s ‘Bash an Immigrant’ day. Every
government has them though this administration indulges more than most. They
occur when ministers run out of ideas, are listless, searching for a purpose,
fail to find one and resort to easy, headbanging, tabloid pleasing measures
which might be good short-term politics but are completely pointless and prime
examples of bad government. And the coalition has excelled itself, presenting
the country with two useless policies before breakfast.
